Cardiovascular Service Lead

Lindsay is Genome Medical’s cardiovascular service lead. She is a board-certified genetic counselor specializing in cardiac and pediatric genetics. She has over 9 years of experience and helped establish the first genetics service in pediatric cardiology at Primary Children’s Hospital.

Scott serves as Genome Medical’s cancer services lead. He is a board-certified genetic counselor with 15+ years experience in adult-onset genetic disorders and a focus on cancer genetics. He has worked at several hospitals as well as genetic testing labs.

Alan is Genome Medical’s pediatric service lead. He previously served as a staff physician and medical geneticist at Kaiser Permanente Northwest and as an associate clinical professor of pediatrics at the University of Utah School of Medicine.

Natalie Beck, MGC, CGC

Natalie Beck is a certified genetic counselor with over 11 years of broad clinical experience in pediatric and adult genetics as well as in clinical research. She has previously worked in specialty clinics focused on craniofacial and skeletal genetics, metabolic disorders and newborn screening. She is passionate about genetics education and patient advocacy.

Maria-Renee is a licensed, board-certified and bilingual (English/Spanish) genetic counselor with prior clinical experience in pediatric genetics. Her work experience includes counseling families about general genetics, muscular dystrophy, cardiology, metabolic disorders and newborn screening.

Katie earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Colorado in Boulder and worked in the mental health field before completing a Masters of Science in genetic counseling at California State University, Stanislaus. She has worked in laboratory and clinical oncology settings before joining Genome Medical. Katie loves genetic counseling because she can help patients to understand their genetic information in a way that allows them to be empowered and proactive in their health.

Danielle is a licensed, board-certified genetic counselor with experience predominantly in pediatrics and neurodevelopmental disorders. She has worked in pediatric specialty clinics including autism spectrum disorder, 22q11.2 deletion syndrome, skeletal dysplasia and outreach clinics. Her genetic industry experience includes test development and remote genetic counseling for families with neurodevelopmental disorders.

Katelyn is a board-certified genetic counselor specializing in cardiac genetics. She established an adult cardiac genetics program at the University of Utah. In this role, she provided genetic counseling for patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, familial hypercholesterolemia, cardiac amyloidosis and other adult-onset cardiac conditions.

Sheryl is a board-certified genetic counselor with more than 6 years of experience counseling patients and families. Her primary area of expertise is hereditary cancer. Additionally, Sheryl previously counseled patients in the only comprehensive inherited cardiovascular diseases clinic present in Texas from 2013 to 2015. Sheryl is passionate about educating patients and their families about genetic information so they can be proactive in their health care decisions.

Shannon is a board-certified genetic counselor with over 18 years of in-person and tele-counseling experience. Her focus has been in reproductive and prenatal health and carrier screening. Shannon has an extensive history of supervisory and leadership roles in research, marketing, product development, mentorship and social media. She is also actively involved in the National Society of Genetic Counselors.

Ashley is a board-certified genetic counselor with over 8 years of experience in cancer genetics. Previously, Ashley spent several years working in a hereditary breast cancer clinic and was the first to implement a hereditary genitourinary cancer clinic at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.

MEDICAL GENETICISTS

Medical geneticists are physicians with specialized training in genetics. Our medical geneticists work collaboratively with our genetic counselors, primary care physicians and care coordinators to ensure comprehensive care for our patients. They are available for direct patient care, as well as peer-to-peer consultation with health care providers in the United States and the international community who may be in need of genetics expertise for case review.

Steven Bleyl, MD, PhD

Steve is Genome Medical’s chief medical officer. He is a board-certified medical geneticist and associate professor in medical genetics and pediatrics at the University of Utah. Previously, Steve directed the Clinical Genetics Institute for Intermountain Healthcare in Salt Lake City.

Brian Kirmse, MD

An expert in telemedicine and genetics, Brian works with Genome Medical on innovative methods to increase access to genetic services. He is chief of the division of medical genetics in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he also directs the department’s program for inherited disorders of energy metabolism.

Douglas Stewart headshot

Douglas Stewart, MD

Douglas received all of his medical training at the University of Pennsylvania and is board-certified in clinical genetics and internal medicine. After his clinical genetics training, he joined the National Institutes of Health* to develop a program in neurofibromatosis type I (NF1). He is currently affiliated with the National Cancer Institute* where he conducts research on pediatric cancer genetics (in particular, the DICER1 syndrome and NF1), syndrome characterization and gene discovery. (*Dr. Stewart is serving in his personal capacity.)
